The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has labeled the blockade of the country’s institutions over the issue of a Serb deputy speaker in the Assembly as “a foolishness of its own kind.”

During the Pressing TV show, Abdixhiku expressed concern that Kosovo is caught in a “trap of populist foolishness” while still lacking functional institutions, a legitimate government, or an approved budget.

“We will await the full ruling of the Constitutional Court. Two issues need clarification: First, does the fifth proposal belong to the Serb community as a whole, or does it follow the logic of Albanian parties and belong to the largest party of that community? We have fallen prey to the political madness of populists over a fifth deputy speaker of the Assembly, which is merely a party-representative position,” Abdixhiku stated.

He added that deputies should have the right to choose their representative without institutional processes being blocked.

“An unreasonable, pointless blockade. We have fallen into the trap of populist political foolishness over an insignificant position, while Kosovo today lacks a functional assembly, a legitimate government, or a budget and capital projects,” Abdixhiku concluded.
